About the ISRA International Journal of Islamic Finance

Use this record when an old article cites the ISRA International Journal of Islamic Finance: it helps you identify the English publication, understand what it covered and find its present-day successor. For a particular year or article, use the separate archive hub.

This is a reconstructed reader record. It is independently written and is not the publisher, editorial office or current institutional journal. English source titles are retained; the Bahasa Melayu explanation is newly written.

About the ISRA International Journal of Islamic Finance

The historical English title is ISRA International Journal of Islamic Finance, often shortened to IIJIF or IJIF. Its print ISSN is 0128-1976 and online ISSN is 2289-4365. An ISSN identifies a serial publication; it is not an approval of every article or financial product.

The original English About page says its first issue appeared in December 2009. The archived English index identifies that issue as Volume 1, Issue 1. The About page described a peer-reviewed journal for academics and practitioners, published twice a year. Read that frequency as historical information.

One historical English journal, a successor, a separate Arabic journal

  1. 1Historical English title

    IIJIF / IJIF
    Print: 0128-1976
    Online: 2289-4365

  2. 2English successor · September 2024

    IJIFSD
    Online: 3030-6442
    Islamic finance and sustainable development

  3. 3Separate Arabic journal

Use the Arabic title and its own issue list. Do not reuse the English issue number.

Text alternative: The English journal has print and online identifiers. Its September 2024 successor has a new title and online identifier. The publisher lists the Arabic journal separately.

The title change connects the old English publication to its successor. The Arabic publication is a separate branch, not a later step.

Islamic-finance research topics

The historical scope emphasised Shariah questions in Islamic banking, economics, finance, law and takaful. The journal published academic articles, practitioner contributions and research notes on work in progress. The publisher’s present publications page also names capital markets and social finance.

New reader guidance: start with a question you need to understand: what a contract changes, who owns an asset, how a dispute arose, or what assumptions a study used. Research can explain the debate. It does not replace your signed contract, current Product Disclosure Sheet, takaful certificate or applicable official rules.

For example, a Malaysian considering home financing can use an older paper to understand diminishing partnership, then check the provider’s actual ownership arrangements, payment obligations, fees and default terms. That is a reading method, not a finding from the journal or a judgement on a particular offer. Muslim and non-Muslim readers can use this educational record; it makes no claim about personal product eligibility.

How publication changed

The original publisher was the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA). The 2019 archived hub says the Emerald partnership began in June 2017. A September 2024 editorial by Beebee Salma Sairally, read from its public ResearchGate copy, describes the 2009–2016 ISRA period, the 2017–2022 Emerald period, and publication by ISRA Research Management Centre, INCEIF University, from 2023 to June 2024. The editorial reports that frequency increased over time; the early twice-yearly schedule should not be carried forward.

INCEIF’s official announcement confirms a change of title in September 2024 to International Journal of Islamic Finance and Sustainable Development (IJIFSD). The new online title has ISSN 3030-6442. The announcement identifies ISRA Institute as publisher and INCEIF University and the Islamic Development Bank Institute as joint sponsors. Publishing, sponsorship and legal ownership are different matters: no ownership-transfer instrument was inspected.

English, Arabic and present-day instructions

The publisher lists the English successor and ISRA International Arabic Journal of Islamic Finance separately. The old English index likewise had separate English and Arabic issue lists. Do not assume matching volume numbers mean the same issue, or that an Arabic article is a translation of an English one. The Bahasa Melayu companion record explains the English journal; it is not an official Malay edition of that journal.

For current articles or submissions, follow the publisher-listed IJIFSD site. Its live page content could not be read in this session. Current frequency, board membership, submission conditions and publication charges are therefore not restated here. The historical ScholarOne link and old office details are not presented as current instructions.

INCEIF’s official announcement says the renamed title’s Scopus coverage begins with September 2024 issues and earlier articles remain under the old title. That is an attributed publisher statement, not an independent live Scopus check. Keep an old article’s original journal title when citing it.

What each layer of evidence can tell you

  1. 1Historical source

An old issue or About page establishes its dated identity and stated research scope.

  2. 2Current publisher source

The university confirms the new title, publisher and sponsors. Current journal instructions still need the live journal page.

  3. 3Your decision

Check current rules and your actual contract, costs, ownership and obligations. A journal label alone does not settle these.

Text alternative: Historical sources answer historical identity questions. Current publisher evidence answers title and publishing questions. Personal product decisions require their own current documents.

New editorial evidence map. These are different questions; neither a citation nor peer review establishes a present product verdict.

Choose your next step

Before relying on an article: check its title, authors, language, year, volume/issue and pages; identify whether you have the full published text or only an abstract; check the country and period studied; and separate the authors’ conclusion from today’s product terms. Peer review does not itself guarantee safety, returns or Shariah compliance of a transaction.
