What does the selected cover include?
For road use, the legal baseline concerns protection against third-party risks. It does not mean your own repair bill, flood loss or injury is covered. This guide uses Takaful Malaysia’s myMotor – Private Car documents to show the distinctions; check the equivalent wording for your operator and vehicle type.
What the selected motor cover includes
Third party only
Covered legal liability to other people for bodily injury/death and property damage.
Your own car’s accident, fire and theft loss: excluded.
Third party, fire and theft
Third-party liability plus the listed fire/theft-related events affecting your car.
Your own car’s collision damage: excluded.
Comprehensive
Third-party liability plus your own car’s accident, fire and theft loss, subject to terms.
Flood: needs applicable special-perils extension.
Text alternative: third-party cover protects specified liabilities, TPFT adds listed own fire/theft events, and comprehensive adds own accident damage. None of these labels alone establishes all add-ons or removes exclusions.
A financing agreement may require more protection than the road-use baseline. Check the financier’s terms separately. A sum covered is the scheduled amount for the vehicle; it is not a promise that every loss pays that amount. The cause of loss, valuation basis, limits and endorsements still matter.

Where your payment goes—and what it does not buy
You pay the contribution. Under the inspected private-car certificate, a portion enters the General Takaful Fund (GTF) as tabarru’, a donation for mutual assistance. The operator manages the fund under wakalah, an agency arrangement, and receives a fee. Eligible claims are paid according to the certificate; participation is not ownership of an individual savings pot. Conditional surplus is not a guaranteed investment return.
The February 2026 myMotor PDS shows the wakalah fee as part of the total contribution, with service tax and stamp duty shown separately. Do not add an included fee twice. When comparing quotations, keep the same car, sum covered, cover type, no-claim discount (NCD), excess and add-ons. Compare the final payable amount, renewal period and exclusions. The selected PDS states a one-year cover period and payment before cover takes effect; a quotation alone is not evidence of active protection.
Taking cover does not itself transfer ownership of the car. Who receives a claim payment is a separate question. If scheduled endorsement C015 applies, a Section A cash settlement goes to the named financier while it remains the car’s financier at the incident date. That payment rule does not promise to clear every remaining financing balance.

Repair cost, excess and eligible payment
Excess is the initial portion you bear under the applicable claim terms. Its amount and scope come from the schedule and endorsement. A repairer’s estimate is not automatically the operator’s assessed payable loss.
Repair cost, excess and eligible payment
Fictional approved own-damage repair · comprehensive cover
RM6,000 assessed repair − RM500 applicable excess = RM5,500
Assessed eligible repair
Entire repair accepted as eligible before excess.
Your own share
Fictional schedule excess only.
Operator payment
Under these assumptions only.
Text alternative: RM6,000 is split into RM500 paid by you and RM5,500 eligible payment. A claim below its excess cannot create a negative operator payment; this simplified model has a floor of zero.
In the May 2026 myMotor wording, C001 applies the scheduled excess to Section A claims and excludes third-party claims. C002 also excludes listed fire, explosion, lightning, burglary, housebreaking and theft losses. Both apply only if included in the schedule. Therefore “fire or theft never has an excess” is too broad for this template. Read the actual endorsement, not just the explanatory overview.
Other contributions to the repair bill can arise separately. Betterment is your share of the cost of new original parts when the repair improves the car’s condition; the selected certificate uses an age-based scale. Under-coverage can reduce settlement. Ask for an itemised assessment showing each applicable deduction and its basis. This guide does not combine them into an invented universal deduction sequence.
A lower sum covered can reduce a partial claim too
For market-value cover, the selected certificate limits an unrecovered theft or beyond-economic-repair payment to market value at loss or sum covered, whichever is lower. Paying for an unnecessarily high sum covered does not automatically raise that payment. An agreed-value endorsement uses a different settlement basis for specified total loss or theft: confirm it is printed in your schedule.
Under-coverage can shrink an eligible repair payment
Separate fictional market-value example · before other deductions
Market value at loss
Sum covered: RM40,000. Shortfall: RM10,000 = 20% of market value.
Assessed eligible loss
Shortfall exceeds the clause’s 10% threshold.
Proportional amount
RM40,000 ÷ RM50,000 × RM6,000. You bear RM1,200 of the assessed loss before other deductions.
RM4,800 + RM1,200 = RM6,000
Text alternative: covering 80% of market value in this example gives 80% of the RM6,000 assessed loss, or RM4,800, before any other applicable deduction. This is separate from Figure 2; no RM500 excess is silently included.
The actual under-coverage clause applies the proportional reduction only when the shortfall exceeds 10% of market value. At exactly 10%, that clause’s threshold is not exceeded. Approved valuation-system terms and agreed-value endorsements need separate checking; do not transplant the example onto them. Ask the operator to explain the valuation used at renewal and at loss.
An authorised driver still has obligations
In the inspected myMotor certificate, an authorised driver needs your permission, a relevant valid licence and compliance with the certificate. A named driver is a person listed in the schedule; being named does not remove licence, use or claim conditions. Check any driver-specific excess or endorsement in your own documents. This guide does not assume a universal RM400 charge for a young or unnamed driver.
Tell the operator how the car is actually used. Ordinary private-car wording does not automatically cover carrying passengers for fares, hire, racing or every form of commercial use. Ask about e-hailing, deliveries, modifications and cross-border travel before relying on private-car cover. The failed or worn part itself is excluded; resulting collision or overturning can be covered under the listed comprehensive events. Other conditions still apply, and basic flood damage needs the relevant special-perils extension. Flood towing/cleaning is a different limited benefit from repairing flood-damaged components.

After an incident: evidence first, then the correct claim route
Get to safety and seek emergency assistance where needed. Record facts without agreeing a private settlement or authorising repairs. Prompt reporting protects the evidence trail; do not wait until the final day of a notification window.
Act promptly: reporting and the claim file
Safety and facts
Seek help; record location/time, registration numbers, other driver details, witness contacts, photos and damage where safe.
Tell the operator promptly
Do not wait for the police report to contact the operator. Use its official assistance channel. Get the claim form, approved repairer and written instructions for your claim route.
Police report
For a road accident, report as soon as reasonably practicable and within 24 hours. Keep the report/reference; this is separate from telling the operator.
Documents and inspection
Provide completed form, police report, identity/licence documents, Vehicle Ownership Certificate (VOC) and repair estimate as applicable. Do not just write “refer to police report”.
Written repair approval
Allow inspection; obtain written consent before repairs or claim expenses. Keep bills and send any third-party legal papers promptly.
Text alternative: secure safety and evidence; contact the operator promptly and report road accidents to police within 24 hours as parallel duties; provide the claim file and allow inspection; obtain written repair consent. The separate operator, form and legal-paper deadlines are stated in this figure.
For this May 2026 private-car template, notify the operator as soon as possible and within 7 days in the ordinary case with neither physical disablement nor hospitalisation. If you are physically disabled and hospitalised because of the incident, it states 30 days or as soon as practicable. If only one of physical disablement or hospitalisation applies, tell the operator promptly and ask it to confirm the applicable window. Longer notification can be allowed with specific proof and justification. Complete the claim form within 21 days after notification; a longer submission period can also be allowed with justification. Forward third-party claim or legal papers immediately and within 14 days of receipt. These are separate requirements, not a universal 7-day deadline for every claim.
Own Damage (OD) uses your own comprehensive cover. Own Damage Knock-for-Knock (ODKFK) can help with certain not-at-fault accidents, but NCD preservation is conditional: the operator must consider you not at fault, the offending vehicle must be identifiable and not used to carry passengers for hire or reward, it must have Malaysian licensed insurance/takaful, and there must be no death or personal-injury claim. “The other driver caused it” alone does not settle the route or preserve NCD. Ask for the claim route, excess treatment and NCD effect in writing.

Personal accident benefits and religious components are product-specific
Muslim and non-Muslim readers should compare participation, covered persons, total payout and any religious component separately. Takaful Malaysia’s older corporate FAQ says non-Muslims can participate; a current motorcycle certificate expressly addresses their benefit total. This is evidence of participation, not a promise that every applicant or every product is accepted.
The myMotor private-car comprehensive certificate has complimentary RM15,000 accidental-death/permanent-disablement cover for each driver/passenger, for incidents in Malaysia, subject to conditions. The injury must independently cause death or the specified permanent disablement within 12 months. Disablement has a narrow definition, such as loss of both eyes’ sight or two limbs; it must persist for 6 months and be verified by the operator’s appointed medical practitioner as beyond recovery. Ordinary injury alone does not qualify. Optional Motor PA Plus increases specified benefits. Personal accident payment to a covered person differs from legal liability to a passenger; the latter needs its own applicable cover. Neither is the same as compulsory third-party protection.
Separately, myClick Motorcycle Bike PA Plus, endorsement C200, is optional and requires the schedule to include it. It describes Muslim Badal Hajj and Qurban uses, while stating that the total payable to non-Muslims is the same as the Muslim total in the schedule. It is not a private-car benefit or a market-wide equality rule. Covered persons depend on the plan; the pillion is included for Plan 3, territorial scope is Malaysia, and only one Bike PA Plus claim is allowed during the period. Check the scheduled amount and defined accidental death/permanent disablement conditions, not just the religious label.

Before renewal—and when a claim is disputed
- Match the quotation to the vehicle, actual use, authorised drivers and financing requirements.
- Check cover type, sum covered, market/agreed value, every excess endorsement and relevant add-ons.
- Keep the issued schedule, certificate, payment proof and operator assistance details accessible.
- Ask which costs you could bear: excess, betterment, under-coverage, uncovered work and replacement transport.
- After an incident, record evidence and reporting times; obtain written repair approval and keep correspondence.
- If a claim is reduced or rejected, request the assessment and exact clause in writing, then use the operator’s complaint process and applicable dispute channel.
PIDM TIPS protects eligible benefits if an insurer member can no longer operate, subject to its limits and conditions, for eligible Malaysian-issued ringgit certificates. It does not make an excluded accident covered or replace the operator’s normal claim assessment.
