Islamic Financial System: Principles and Operations — a book and chapter reader’s guide

Looking for the source behind the “Islamic equity market” chapter? The IIUM citation places it in this ISRA book, ISBN 978-967-349-127-8. Use this record to locate the right reading and cite it accurately before applying a historical discussion to a decision today.

Sources checked 6 October 2026

The book and chapter are different records

The verified citation is: Mustaffa Kamil, Nazrol Kamil (2012), “Islamic equity market”, in Islamic financial system: principles and operations, International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA), Kuala Lumpur, pages 451–496, ISBN 978-967-349-127-8. IIUM records it as a book chapter and labels the deposited PDF “Chapter 11”. This preserves the chapter author’s credit; ISRA is the cited parent-book publisher. [I] [IDX] The repository’s comma-formatted citation identifies one author: Nazrol Kamil Mustaffa Kamil.

MARA’s library record independently associates the same ISBN with the title and a 2012 ISRA publication in Kuala Lumpur. INCEIF’s catalogue describes a copy as “Second print”, with xxxi preliminary pages and 912 numbered pages. A second printing does not necessarily mean a second edition. We have not inspected that copy’s title or copyright page. [M] [K]

Date fields need separate treatment. UTB’s catalogue names Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki as editor-in-chief and records 2011 for the same ISBN. KUIJSI’s catalogue describes “Second print”, publication 2012 and copyright ©2011. These are attributed catalogue statements, not inspected printed front matter. They do not prove the old store copy; the 2012 chapter citation here is not a claim that every copy was first published in 2012. [U] [Q]

Full text explanation

IIUM identifies the 2012 Islamic equity market chapter by Nazrol Kamil Mustaffa Kamil, pages 451–496, in the ISRA parent book with ISBN 9789673491278. INCEIF separately describes a copy as Second print. IIUM links product 23, but that link does not identify the old product printing. Book-to-chapter relationship is verified; product edition is not. Separate catalogue years are not a claim that 2012 was the first publication year. KUIJSI lists 19 chapter headings; the selective map is based on that catalogue.

Bibliographic relationship map, not a summary of chapter arguments. Indentation separates the chapter and the store-link evidence from the parent book. Sources: I, IDX, K, M, U, Q.

Chapters on banking, securities and takaful

The chapter titles help you locate topics within the broader book. KUIJSI’s catalogue lists 19 chapters; the selected map below shows the equity chapter beside banking, money-market, sukuk and takaful topics. This is a map of documented headings, not a summary of their arguments, examples or conclusions. The restricted equity chapter has not been read. [Q]

Compare an ISBN alongside the actual copy’s language, title, publisher, year, edition or printing statement and page numbering. A chapter citation and shared ISBN do not prove which printing an old shop sold. IIUM’s “Official URL” points to I-FIKR product 23; that product’s own title, edition/copyright statement and sale terms have not been recovered. [I] [K]

KUIJSI’s catalogue lists Chapter 8 Islamic Banking Operations and Instruments, Chapter 9 Islamic Money Market, Chapter 10 Sukuk Market, Chapter 11 Islamic Equity Market and Chapter 12 Takaful. IIUM’s equity record gives Chapter 11 pages 451–496. This selective map locates topics; it does not summarise chapter findings or identify the old shop printing.

Selected headings from KUIJSI catalogue 523. The selection is editorial; the five headings and chapter numbers come from the catalogue. IIUM separately supports the equity chapter’s page span. Sources: Q, I.

What the evidence establishes — and what to check next

Established metadata

  • Book title, ISRA publisher, Kuala Lumpur, ISBN and cited 2012 year.
  • Chapter author/title, Chapter 11 label and pp. 451–496.
  • INCEIF copy: Second print, xxxi + 912 pages.
  • Saved IIUM record restricts the chapter to repository staff.
  • Separate dates: UTB catalogue 2011; KUIJSI Second print 2012 / copyright ©2011.
  • KUIJSI catalogue headings identify 19 chapters; a selected map is available here.

Not established

  • Exact edition/printing sold as old product 23.
  • Title/copyright pages of that shop copy.
  • Complete text or conclusions of the inaccessible equity chapter; shop-copy contents.
  • Current price, stock, sale terms or reproduction permission.
  • Today’s product eligibility, charges or SC screening rules.
Full text explanation

Established: book and chapter metadata, INCEIF printing description, and saved IIUM file restriction. Not established: old-product exact edition, title/copyright pages, shop-copy contents and unseen equity-chapter conclusions, sale terms and current investment rules. Use metadata to find reading; current authorities and actual offer documents answer present decisions. UTB’s catalogue year is 2011; KUIJSI separately lists 2012 publication, ©2011 copyright and Second print. These do not prove the old shop copy. KUIJSI’s catalogue lists 19 headings, from which the selective map is drawn.

Evidence scope, not a grading of the book. Missing text is not filled with an invented contents map or investment verdict. Sources: I, K, M, SC, U, Q.

Access, price and rights

The saved original IIUM record labels the PDF a published version restricted to repository staff, with a “Request a copy” option. A request does not guarantee permission or delivery. The restricted chapter has not been obtained or read. [I]

Use the IIUM record or an institutional library to enquire about lawful access to the matching copy and any borrowing or copying conditions. This page offers no book for sale: no current price, delivery charge, stock, licence or purchase offer for product 23 has been verified. A catalogue listing does not establish stock for sale or a right to reproduce chapters. [I] [K]

A practical reading path for Malaysians

Suppose Amir and Priya want to understand an Islamic equity investment. This is a fictional reading example, not a description of the chapter. First locate the matching book and Chapter 11. Once you have the text, note each statement’s date, issuer and source. Then compare questions about today’s investment with current Malaysian authority sources and the actual offer documents.

Equity is an ownership interest. Before using a historical discussion for a present decision, ask what you would own, where your money would go, whether distributions are conditional, who bears loss, what charges apply and how you could sell or withdraw. These are editorial reading questions; they are not attributed to the unseen chapter.

For Malaysian Islamic capital-market authority, start with Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and its Shariah Advisory Council. Its official mandate concerns Islamic capital-market business and transactions. If you encounter a 2012 screening description, check the applicable dated SC material before treating it as current. No current screening threshold or named security status is asserted here. [SC]

Muslim and non-Muslim readers can use the bibliographic record to learn and locate reading. That is separate from eligibility to open an account, join a fund or buy a specific investment. Each actual offer has its own applicant conditions; the book citation proves none of them. Check religious compliance questions, charges, risk and participation requirements separately.

Before citing or obtaining a copy

  • Match title, language, publisher, year and ISBN on the actual copy; record edition and printing separately.
  • Retain the equity chapter’s author, parent-book title, Chapter 11 and pp. 451–496 for the cited 2012 record. Recheck pagination for another copy.
  • Ask for lawful library access and copying permission. A repository record is not permission to reproduce a chapter.
  • Separate actual chapter claims from your explanation and today’s rules. A title does not reveal the author’s findings.
  • If a seller offers the book, confirm the exact copy, full price and delivery terms directly. No current seller offer is established here.
