ISRA-MTA Thematic Workshop 2013
Kuala Lumpur, August 19, 2013- The International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) in collaboration with the Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) have jointly organized a half-day thematic workshop with the title, “The Offering of Mortgage Reducing Term Takaful for Conventional Housing Loan”. The workshop was held at Lanai Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia. The main reason for the workshop was to discuss the issue of MRTT for conventional housing loan. This workshop attracted around 70 experts, comprised of industry practitioner, academics and regulators.
This workshop was started with a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an by Ustaz Khairul Anuar Basri and followed by welcoming and introductory remark from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin, the Executive Director at ISRA. The topic was presented Dr. Sa’id Adekunle Mikail and Ustaz Muhammad Ali Jinnah Ahmad both from ISRA and Ustaz Burhanuddin Lukman from IIUM.
After the presentation session, the topic was further discussed by four discussants, consisting of industry professionals and academics:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azman Mohd Noor from IIUM
- Mr. Ezamshah Ismail from INCEIF
- Mr. Ikhtar Ismail from HSBC Amanah Takaful
- Ustaz Saiful Anuar Hambali from Affin Islamic Bank
The session was excellently moderated by Assoc. Prof. Nurdianawati Irwani Abdullah from IIUM. Many constructive comments and feedback were received from panelists and participants. At the end of the workshop, Ustaz Ahmad Zaiem Ismail representing MTA gave closing remarks and thanked all participants, presenters and committee members for making the event a success.
